Tyson's Corners began as a vision rooted in faith, service, and care for others. Over time, that  vision has been carried forward through different seasons,  guided by a shared commitment to rest, healing and thoughtful stewardship of the land.

Tyson's Corners Retreat Center was founded by Chaplain (LTC-Retired) Gene Tyson and his wife Judy Tyson.
Gene carried a lifelong calling to support soldiers and their families, shaped through his service as a United States Army Chaplain.

Following his retirement after twenty years of service, Gene & Judy focused their hearts on continuing to serve military families through seasons of deployment, reintegration, and healing. In 2001, they opened Tyson's Corners as a place where chaplains, soldiers, and their families could step away from daily pressures and find rest, renewal, and quiet restoration.

Their vision was simple and deeply faithful: to offer a place of refuge where people could slow down, be cared for, and experience peace in a setting grounded in God's presence .

Though Gene and Judy have since passed their legacy remains deeply woven into the land, the mission, and the spirit of Tyson's Corners Retreat Center.

Stewardship Today...

Today Tyson's Corners continues under the stewardship of Gene & Judy's youngest daughter and son-in-law, Joanna and Chris Dunlap. They carry forward the founding vision with care, humility, and respect for what has been entrusted to them.

Joanna & Chris came to Tyson's Corners through their own journey of healing, faith, and service. Their connection to the land and its purpose grew naturally, shaped by shared values of family, compassion, and thoughtful stewardship.

Together they guide Tyson's Corners as a place of quiet hospitality - welcoming individuals, families, and small groups seeking rest, reflection, and renewal.  Their approach honors both the history of the retreat center and the evolving needs of those who come seeking peace.

At its heart, Tyson's Corners Retreat Center exists to offer space to rest, to gather, and to reconnect with what matters most. Each season builds upon the last, shaped by faith, care for others, and respect for the land.

The story of Tyson's Corners is not one of the past alone, but of an ongoing commitment to healing, presence, and gentle hospitality - a place where legacy continues through service.
"Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
